Its very interesting to look over, and kind of a quirky focus for an OEM tablet company, but I hope NotionInk continues to be different.
I was thinking about tablet use and the user experience, and I think that responsiveness is perhaps the greatest single factor in user satisfaction and indeed usability.
Considering a comment you made previously, Rohan, about Android needing to improve its graphical processing or something to that effect, I think that for all its conceptual and functional restrictivensss iOS does do that right. If the tablet pauses, even for a fraction of a second when asked to do something, whether its swiping, typing, exiting, activating, whatever, if the user even momentarily considers that the device did not detect the touch and the user considers having to repeat an action, then the user experience decreases dramatically. I think a user would rather see a progress circle than a pause. I’m not sure, but the overall experience, including openness, available apps, functionality, customisation, may be 50% responsiveness and then everything else in a user’s perception. That is, poor response, resulting in breaks in thought-flow, repeated touch actions, and genuine errors, is perhaps the single most important factor in usability.
If managed properly, it might make 2 cores vs 4 cores an irrelevant question.
I would also like to see more about Adam 2. Perhaps a forum dedicated to the development. Anyone can join, but if they aren’t contributing they get booted. What do you think?
Louis, I think that there are many who would be, or are interested and there is a forum all ready in place. And as has been mentioned by many, while the A1 was cutting edge, hardware wise, and still is in someways. The software was initially disappointing but has been improved tremendously since then. all of this is to say that while there is interest in an A2, there are so many more choices today and many are waiting on Msf 8, Ipad 3 and the new form factors that will literally be here tomorrow. Rohan and NI have to put something out there to distract and get some attention before people commit and financially lock the A2 out; as they say, out of sight out of mind. Personally I miss my PQ A1 but the Transformer with ICS is, performance wise, everything that I expected from A1 and enough so that I can wait until the right tablet finally arrives and I really have high hopes for A2.
Sounds good except for the part about getting booted, sometimes I just want to be an observer. However I really think that people who have already decided that they want no part in notion ink should just move on; there’s no contribution being made by whiners on either blog.
Peaceout
Interesting,
I’m not sure I got everything intended from this presentation. The two most used greens are really very close, so some of the distinctions aren’t clear.
Phillip, I like your points about interaction and user experience. Also, the way that multi core processors are used in most devices, the difference between 2 and 4 cores only becomes apparent when more than two things are going on at once. Usually none of us multi task well enough to see the difference. However, if background processes, like wireless throughput and system monitoring tasks take place on deep cores then the two managing the user interface can appear much faster. Not many systems are designed to take full advantage of more than 2 cores…
Luck,
@Phillip & Dwarf, you both make interesting points as up to the present Apple is dominating just primarily because it provides the best user experience. Android is still developing and Microsoft has not entered the competition. It would be interesting if someone really came out with a more complete product. Apps are o’k but After awhile it becomes a time consuming process. The promise of the MSF Courier and the Adam1 was what I was looking forward to and still settling, looking and waiting as it still the early stages of a new era; the tablet era.
I am thirsty and hungry for some more info on adam2. I think infographs are very interesting, but for me personally they are like a side dish – nice but not the main meal.
Can we have some more info, please? – design ideas, sketches, outlines, mock up renders, functions, specs, features. I know you can’t release the info all at once, and I know that there are restrictions placed upon you by investors and partners, but please, something…
Will adam2 have that “Rohan signature golden ratio” and distinctive curved grip (which I Iove so much)?
Will my Goliath adam case fit right onto adam2?
Will adam2 have increased storage options?
Will adam2 use PixelQi, and what will the screen specs be?
Will adam2 go up in camera megapixels, but still be a swivel option?
Dying out here…
Just wanted to encourage you to PLEASE GIVE US MORE
🙂
🙂
Did you guys make this infograph?

Just rambling at 10 past midnight.
What do you think?
Ok, more adam2 design info now please 🙂

When Are We Going To See The Adam 2, Or At Least Some Info On It Besides The CPU?
Read something interesting today…
http://www.slashgear.com/ti-omap-5-blows-past-quadcore-tegra-3-23215003/
not sure if changes your mind to go one level up on CPU. 🙂
@Akimol, the timing would work as it’s still a yea or so from production. I wonder where everyone else will be a year from now.
